BNZ Auckland Diwali Festival - Projection mapping

Auckland Council

Info

BNZ Auckland Diwali Festival is not only one of Auckland’s largest cultural celebrations, but Aotearoa’s premier Indian cultural festival.Diwali comes from the Sanskrit Deepavali, meaning “row of lights,” and each year more than 65,000 people gather in the city to celebrate together. Working closely with Auckland Council and our technical delivery partners,  Streamliner NZ, we created a five-minute looping projection mapped animation for the façade of the Auckland Town Hall. The work celebrated iconic Diwali imagery at monumental scale — larger than life elephants and tigers running across the building, intricate Rangoli patterns, glowing Diya lamps, and a radiant gold temple seamlessly imposed onto the architecture.  As dusk settled, the visuals unfolded to a stunned crowd, transforming the Town Hall into a living canvas of light and story. A dream project creatively — bringing culture, craft, and public spectacle together at scale.
